There is a rubber diaphram under that. I wouldn't heat up that surface in fear of melting the rubber. This is what I did. After mucking up one of the heads on the screws, I followed someone else's suggestion. Use the screwdriver as a chisel and tap at the outer edge of the screw. When I did that they came out easily. Wish I had started like that.
